A Smoky Mountain

About This Photo:
High atop sandstone cliffs in Southern Utah wide fissures release toxic gasses into the air. Faintly reminiscent of Yellowstone yet fueled by very different processes. Far below, natural coal deposits ignited thousands of years ago continue to smolder, releasing energy stored for over 80 million years back into the cycles of earth. Smoky Mountain, Southern Utah.
